Ornellaia Le Serre Nuove

Ornellaia Le Serre Nuove

The story of the estate named Ornellaia is one of loyalty, betrayal, espionage and family feuds, but also one of incredible wines and a search to find extraordinary quality in the coastal region of Tuscany by the Maremma, a natural park surrounded by dwarf-pine trees and inhabited by wild boar. The landscape is spectacularly beautiful set between the rolling Tuscan hills and the gently Tyrrhennian sea, in the vicinity of the town of Bolgheri. The vines here have a brilliant affinity to Cabernet Sauvignon, a fact discovered, of course, by accident. This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and the other famous Bordeaux ingredients, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and resembles the wines of Bordeaux as though a distant relative might do. The wines at Ornellaia are dense and rich and layered with great aging potential and a completely different perspective to the Bordeaux blend that is at once Tuscan and Italian. The Serre Nuove once was seen as the left over wine from the estate, but has recently become as anticipated a release as the estate's flagship wine. Bearing the hallmarks of greatness and elegance, it is a wine that accompanies local food of wild boar and game as well as other roast meats, cheeses and charcuterie, which can provide a backdrop to show off the excellence of this wine.
