The legend of Cloudy Bay is that winemaker Kevin Judd as landing by plane into the south island of New Zealand and saw a beautiful panorama from his window. The bay below and the rising mist left an impression on him as he went to consider the possibility of growing grapes in this region and when he realised the potential quality, he landed firmly on the label of what has become one of the most-loved wine in the world. The grapes originally came from small blocks in vineyards owned by two families, but have now increased to allow for great consistency in this iconic wine. The style has changed very little over the years, delivering a white wine that is normally the preserve of white Burgundy and the whites from the Loire. Excellent freshness, clarity of flavour and a classy texture that opens up a whole new world to food matching.
